San Francisco Reporter Shares 49ers’ Brock Purdy Contract Stance Following John Lynch’s $92M Decision

Brock Purdy is the least paid starting QB in the league right now. It doesn’t make any sense. How can a Super Bowl runner up QB be this underpaid? Maybe all that is about to change now because the 49ers might have come to grips with reality. The Niners are 5-4 with Purdy, who played without his featured players, Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey for the most part.

But all that’s about to change right now. It started with Aiyuk getting a brand-new extension and trickled down to their cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, who is in the last year of his rookie contract and cemented a long-term deal with the Bay Area franchise. Still don’t believe Purdy will get paid? Check out what the ESPN reporter, Nick Wagoner has to say about the potential extension.

Wagoner took to X to spread the good word. “The #49ers next “core” group of players is taking shape. WR Brandon Aiyuk, CB Deommodore Lenoir will be integral and, of course, QB Brock Purdy is likely next,” the Bay Area reporter wrote on X. If anything, Wagoner believes that Purdy will up the offense in the same way that the veterans Fred Warner and Nick Bosa have done the defense.

The Niners QB is making a modest amount of $985k in base salary this year and will get another $19.2k in signing bonus. As it happens, this is the third year of Purdy’s rookie deal with the 49ers, and he might get paid real soon. Per ESPN, the Iowa State alum is in the sixth place in terms of yardage (2,454) and has thrown 12 touchdowns and seven picks in the 9 games he’s played in this season, so he’s in a great position.

The QB has picked up other roles in the absence of Brandon Aiyuk and Christian McCaffrey in the sense that he’s running the ball a lot. In the last season, he rushed for 144 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. This year will upgrade his rushing numbers because in the 9 games he’s played, the QB has rushed for 244 and scored three rushing TDs. He’s shown a steady improvement so far.

The Niners might look like a cheap team from the outside looking in, but history is proof that they take care of their own, eventually. Ask that to Deommodore Lenoir.

The 49ers cornerback just scored a five-year $92 million deal which amounts to an AAV of $18.4 million. The extension has been long overdue because Lenoir has done everything that Niners have asked of him. He’s shifted from playing outside and nickel corner and everything else in between.

He has the 12 highest AAV in the league and is behind players like Pat Surtain II, Jaire Alexander, Jalen Ramsey, Marshon Lattimore, and many others. John Lynch’s decision has made him the sixth highest paid CB in the league as far as the value of his contract is concerned. Players who have a bigger contract than him include, Denzel Ward, Marshon Lattimore, Marlon Humphrey, Trevon Diggs and Pat Surtain II.

This season is progressing astonishingly for the fourth year CB, who has amassed 33 solo tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 interceptions and 6 defended passes. Do you think the Niners made a right choice extending him? Let us know what you think.
