The life of a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader is an exhausting one, as showcased by Netflix’s recent drama surrounding the women in those heralded positions.
However, what has followed has been an intense interest in the fortunes of the stars of the show, and that interest stretches way beyond the local borders of Dallas, Texas.
New Yorkers themselves now have the chance to dance alongside a former Cowboys cheerleader, Victoria Kalina, who is bringing her talents from Dallas to Manhattan.
Victoria Kalina recently gained widespread attention as a breakout star on the Netflix series “America’s Sweethearts,” which follows young women auditioning for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleading team.
Kalina, who spent four years as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, is now pursuing a new dream in the Big Apple.
“I feel like my eyes and my life have been opened to a new opportunity,” Kalina shared.
“Everyone thinks DCC was my life goal. I don’t think you can have too many goals. My other one… was Radio City Rockettes.”
To achieve her dream of becoming a Rockette, Kalina is training at Fusion Exercise on Eighth Avenue under the guidance of Rhonda Malkin, CEO and director of the studio. Malkin, a former Rockette herself, is coaching Kalina through the rigorous audition process.
“I’ve been teaching since I was 15 years old, it helped my mom pay for dance classes,” Malkin said. “I’m so glad Kalina is here now and she’s continuing her journey to become a Rockette with me.”
In addition to her Rockette training, Kalina has teamed up with Malkin to offer a new dance class open to all skill levels. Kalina teaches this fitness-focused class, which incorporates cheerleading moves to make the workout fun and engaging.
“If anything, it will inspire some dancers to come out of their shell and try something new, and maybe burn a few calories,” Malkin explained.
As for her Rockette audition journey, Kalina is fully aware of the challenges ahead.
“It’s gonna take a lot of focus, a lot of discipline. I’m here. I’m ready to work,” she concluded.
